Watchmaker's bench at Hairspring

Why Hairspring

The difference is in how we work, not just what we do.

Most watch servicing is invisible — you hand over a piece and get it back. At Hairspring, everything is documented, costed, and agreed. You see the work, not just the result.

What You Get with Hairspring

Written Quote Before Work Begins

No work is started until the cost is agreed in writing. You know exactly what you are paying before a tool is picked up.

Photographic Work Record

Overhaul jobs are photographed at each stage. The record travels with the watch — a permanent account of the care it received.

Timing Measured Before and After

We record timing rate on a machine before service and again after. The improvement is documented and shared with you.

Options Discussed, Not Assumed

We do not assume what a customer wants. Strap options, refinishing decisions, and repair choices are all walked through with you first.

Secure, Logged Custody

Every piece in our workshop is logged and stored securely when not on the bench. You can ask about its status at any time.

Local Workshop, Personal Contact

We are in Khon Kaen, reachable by phone, walkable from the city centre. You speak with the people who actually do the work.

Expertise

Qualified Hands on Every Job

Hairspring's watchmaker trained formally in mechanical horology and has worked across a wide range of calibre types — from inexpensive but reliable Japanese automatics through to older Swiss pocket movements. The knowledge to recognise what a given movement needs, and what it does not, comes from years of hands-on work.

  • Formal horology training
  • Experience across mechanical and quartz calibres
  • Familiar with vintage and modern movements
  • Honest about work beyond our scope

Years of bench work

12+

years of active watchmaking and repair experience in the Hairspring workshop.

Tools in regular use

  • Timing machine for rate measurement
  • Watchmaker's loupe and microscope
  • Ultrasonic cleaning bath
  • Manufacturer-grade lubricants
  • Precision case tools for opening and closing

Process & Tools

The Right Equipment, Used Correctly

Good results in watchmaking come from correct tools used with patience — not from shortcuts or rushing. We use an ultrasonic bath for cleaning, a timing machine for measuring rate, and proper lubrication at specified quantities. Each step follows a documented sequence.

Customer Experience

Clear at Every Stage

From the first conversation through to collection, we try to remove uncertainty. You are told what was found, what was done, and what the outcome is — without needing to chase us for information.

  • Written condition report at intake
  • Scope and cost confirmed before starting
  • Contact if anything unexpected is found
  • Full written summary on completion

Customer satisfaction

96%

of customers rate their experience as satisfactory or very satisfactory in our annual review.

Pricing approach

  • Fixed service prices published on our solutions page
  • Overhaul work costed in stages before each stage begins
  • No minimum spend or mandatory upsells
  • We will say if a repair is not worth the cost

Value & Pricing

Transparent from the Start

Our service prices are published. Overhaul pricing is costed in stages, agreed at each step. We do not build in hidden margins or surprise charges. If a watch is not worth the cost of repair, we will say so plainly rather than charge for work that does not make sense.

Results

Work That Lasts

A well-executed service extends the useful life of a mechanical watch by five to ten years in normal conditions. The measurements we take before and after demonstrate the improvement in timing accuracy, and the work is done to a standard that holds.

  • Timing improvement documented and shared
  • Service intervals appropriate to the movement
  • Post-service advice on care and wear

What Makes Us Different

Things You Will Not Find Everywhere

Permanent Service Record for Keepsake Pieces

Our full overhaul service produces a written and photographic document that becomes part of the watch's history. It travels with the piece and remains available to whoever holds it in future.

No Work Without Agreement

Nothing is done to a watch without the owner's explicit agreement — not a strap change, not additional cleaning, not a part replacement. This is a firm rule, not an aspiration.

Conservative Refinishing by Default

We do not polish away character. Refinishing is offered and discussed but never assumed. A watch that has worn naturally over years carries that history in its surface, and we respect that.

Present in Khon Kaen

We are not a nationwide chain with a Khon Kaen drop-off point. We are a workshop on Sri Chan Road. Your watch does not travel anywhere unexpected, and you can visit at any time during working hours.
